What the museum covers

What the museum covers

The museum brings together objects and displays connected to Podkarpackie battlefields and military history from 1914 to 1945. Its exhibitions contain about 2,000 objects, held on deposit from the organizers, and the collection continues to grow.

The collection began with objects gathered in different parts of Podkarpackie several decades ago. Later additions have mainly come through purchases, alongside some donations. Displays include a permanent exhibition inside the building, a semi-outdoor display on the property and a World War II air-raid shelter adjoining it. The shelter was formerly part of Krosno airfield’s infrastructure.

Permanent exhibitions cover a wide span of regional and military history. Their titles include “Karpaty 1914–1915,” “Wrzesień 1939,” “Konspiracja niepodległościowa,” “Dukla 1944” and “Podkarpacie 1945.” Other exhibitions focus on wartime aviation in the Krosno area, the history of military tools and the evolution of sapper shovels.

The museum also presents information about the treatment of prisoners at the forced-labour camp in Szebnie, including the original sign from the camp’s main gate. Krosno’s Muzeum Podkarpackie is another museum in the city.
